Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
The 2019 season will be the second season for Avila's head coach for Marc Benavidez, and his eighth as a member of the coaching staff after a four year playing career for the Eagles. Benavidez brings a wealth of knowledge to the offense as he has coached multiple positions throughout his career including frequent All-Conference performers. Benavidez coached running backs in 2012, wide receivers in 2013, offensive line in 2014, and began coaching quarterbacks in 2018.
Coach Benavidez's first season as head coach in 2018 turned out to be the most successful season in program history as the Eagle's were ranked as high as 21st in the nation and finished with a 7-3 record. The Eagle's offense ended the season nationally ranked in the top 15 in multiple categories (First Downs, Pass Offense, 3rd Down Conversion Percentage, Total Offense Per Game, Scoring Offense Per Game, and Total Pass Offense) despite starting 3 different quarterbacks.
Numerous school records have been broken during his tenure as an offensive coach for the Eagles including most points in a season (384), average yards per game (466), total yards in a game (706), points in a game (80), Passing touchdowns in a season (26), and rushing touchdowns in a season (26).
Coach Benavidez was a four year letter winner for the Avila Eagles as a player. Benavidez was a very versatile player throughout his career with Avila, starting games at QB, WR, and DB. He was the starting quarterback during Avila’s first ever on-campus football game on September 17th, 2011 against Missouri Valley College. Benavidez graduated from Avila with his Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology in May of 2012.
Prior to his time at Avila, Benavidez graduated from Troy Buchanan High School in Troy, Missouri in 2008, where he also played four seasons and started at QB and DB for the Trojans. Marc is the son of Donna Tucker.
